Click here for more information on this roll.
The choir was founded in 1944 by members of the local Home Guard and since then has provided a major contribution to the local community, with public concerts, presentations in hospitals and residential homes for the elderly. The choir has a proud tradition of not charging to perform and has sung at a variety of events and fund-raising appeals in the wider Rugby area as well as singing in mass-choir events at many prestigious venues. Over the years the choir has helped raise thousands of pounds for local organisations and charities.
The Choir’s current musical director Mike Minton is retiring after 16 sterling years in the role. His final concert is being held in the Temple Speech Rooms, Rugby on Saturday 29th July with combined choirs from Rugby, Coventry, Leamington and Northampton along with the Jaguar Land Rover Band in a spectacular “Last Night of the Proms” themed concert.
The choir currently consists of around 30 members and the repertoire ranges from Welsh Hymns, to traditional music, songs from the shows and more contemporary items. Rehearsals are held on a weekly basis in preparation for the choir’s varied programme with performances averaging one a month.
The choir is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, experienced musician to fill the role of Musical Director to continue to develop the standards and excellent reputation the choir has in the local community. Previous experience of running a choir is preferable but this need not be a strict requirement. The Musical Director is supported by the choir committee who carry out the administrative duties.
